Bucks for Books Scholarship
BCLA sponsors the Bucks for Books Scholarship program, meant to support future librarians and educators, who love to learn, understand the importance of libraries, show leadership skills, and are active members of their community.
The Bucks for Books Scholarship, in the amount of $500.00, is open to any high school senior who lives in and attends a high school in Bucks County and plans a college major in education or library science.

Previous Awards
The 2012 Scholarship was awarded to Jillian Ranck of William Tennent High School in the Centennial School District.
The 2011 scholarship, awarded to Heather Mengert of Bensalem High School in the Bensalem School District, was given in memory of Angela Felt, who passed away June 21, 2010. Angela served as a teacher librarian at Faust Elementary in the Bensalem School District. As a former member of the BCLA Steering Committee, Angela was a well-known leader throughout Bucks County.
The 2010 Bucks for Books Scholarship, awarded to Ashley Frederickson of Pennridge High School in the Pennridge School District, was given in memory of Carol “CJ” Smith. Carol, who passed away from breast cancer on August 27, 2009, was the teacher librarian at Truman High School in the Bristol Township School District. Carol was a strong voice and advocate for libraries in general and school libraries in particular. Carol was passionate about books, teaching and young people. During her most difficult times Carol continued teaching, taking her Reading Olympics team to the competition even when illness robbed her of her eyesight. Carol was loved by her students, colleagues and friends; it is only fitting that BCLA honor her passion and spirit by presenting this year’s Bucks For Books Scholarship in her memory.
